On the afternoon of Friday 27th August, Loughton Bowls Club held its annual Gala Day where everyone comes dressed in something red, white and blue. This year’s event was again generously sponsored by Daniel Robinson & Sons, with Joanne and Seamus Setterfield attending the day’s bowling.
We had 28 players making up 8 teams. These teams were split into 2 groups of 4 teams with each team playing a triples match against each of the other teams in their group. All the teams were named after members of the Royal Family.
At the end of the round-robin matches, Group 1 was won by Team Anne and Group 2 was won by Team Harry. These two teams then played a 7-end final, which was dominated in the early stages by Team Anne leading 7-1 after 4 ends. Team Harry staged a fight back but trailing by 4 shots going into the last end, they could only score 3 shots to come up just short. Team Anne winning the event by 8 shots to 7.
The winners were Mick Nunn, Geoff Clarke, Derek Friend and Carol Ludlow
The runners-up were Elaine Weston, Frank Ludlow and Barbara Friend
The bowls was followed by a supper of fish and chips or chicken and chips held in our hall, which 46 people attended. This was the first major social event the Club had been able to hold for its members since March 2020. At the end of the meal Joanne and Seamus presented the winners and runners-up with prizes of bottles of wine, kindly donated by Daniel Robinson & Sons.
Paul Elliott thanked everyone who came to play and who came along for the meal, everyone who helped organise the event and the meal and make it a great success for the Club and to Joanne and Seamus for their continued generous support for this event and for the Club.
